Health care executives recognize the need for a robust health information exchange, but they largely lack the budget, according to a survey by Beacon Partners.
The research firm questioned 200 C-suite executives, half from community hospitals and half CIOs. High startup costs and insufficient capital were top concerns for 41% of respondents, according to the survey. Despite the hurdles, 71% are nonetheless planning a Health Information Exchange.
Studies have shown the potential for an HIE to save money, and an image-sharing network is largely seen as a key component. Roughly 38% of respondents to the Beacon poll had less than a $1 million budget, while 20% had no budget at all.
