Georgia Woman in Case Against Tech Dies

A woman who was part of a criminal case against a radiology technologist in Georgia for wrongfully reporting the results of 10 mammogram tests has died.

Miriam Wheelus Mizell, 63, received a negative result from a routine mammogram in 2009, according to an article in the Macon Telegraph.

It was later learned the radiology technologist, Rachael Michelle Rapraeger, 31, entered negative results for nearly 1,300 tests that were not read by a radiologist. Mizell’s test was one of 10 that were actually positive for cancer.

Mizell received a diagnosis of stage IV colorectal cancer 14 months after the negative test result. Following the discovery, Mizell joined a criminal case and a civil case against the technologist.

The civil case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount of money, according to the article, and the technologist is currently free on bail pending trial in the criminal case. She is accused of 10 counts of felony computer forgery and 10 counts of misdemeanor reckless conduct.
