I have written and discussed how artificial intelligence is changing radiology in radical ways. Is it possible that CAD will eventually take over what a radiologist does? Of course not, you say. Well, an interesting article in today’s Wall Street Journal should be a little bit of a wake-up call. In the article, Ray Kurzwell cites the recent showdown between IBM’s computer known as “Watson” and two of Jeopardy’s greatest champions. Guess who won by a huge margin? Kurzwell notes that artificial intelligence is developing much more rapidly than most of us realize. Message to radiologists: find a way to add value to the information that you deal with each day if you want to remain the most relevant interpreter of medical cases………..because AI will eventually do much of the heavy lifting.
