A survey of angiography labs in the U.S. shows the growth rate for interventional procedures rose just 1 percent over each of the past two years.
The census by the research firm IMV Medical Information Division found an estimated 4.9 million procedures were performed at 1,710 angio labs, according to a press release. The firm found fewer sites bought brand-new system, though they would likely be replacing existing systems in coming years.
From 2004 to 2008, the number of procedures grew by 4.6 percent annually. From 2008 to 2010, growth slowed to 1 percent.
“While the total angio lab procedure volume has been relatively stable, the procedure mix has broadened,” says Lorna Young, senior director, market research, in a press release.
