Bayer Integrates Contrast Media Business into New Unit

Bayer Healthcare announced a new business unit this week at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2012 meeting in Vienna.

The new unit, called Radiology and Interventional, combines businesses under the Bayer subsidiary Medrad and Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceutical’s own contrast media products, according to a press release.

Bayer acquired Medrad in 2006 as part of the purchase of Schering AG. Medrad maintained its brand name after selling to Schering in 1995. The company was a leader in angiography and contrast material since 1964.

“Working over several decades, the groups that now form Bayer HealthCare, Radiology and Interventional have achieved significant success in the radiology, interventional and contrast media fields,” said Joerg Reinhardt MD, chairman of the board of management of Bayer HealthCare, based on the release. “Our commitment continues with the integration of these business groups to increase focus on shared customers.”
