Charlotte Radiology and Belk, Inc., a privately owned department store, have partnered up for the BelkGives on the Go campaign, which takes a mobile mammography center to more than 100 cities in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee this year, and offers free mammogram screening for women age 40 and over who have not had mammogram in the last 12 months.
The mobile mammography center's first stop was North Augusta, S.C., and will spend the next 49 weeks on the road, staying two days at each stop. The center is staffed by Charlotte Radiology’s certified technologists, and exams are interpreted by a radiologist specialized in breast imaging.
Belk invested $6 million into the project, showing a unique level of dedication and cooperation with Charlotte Radiology to offer free breast cancer screening and raise awareness.
"Having the BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center travel to the cities where our associates and customers live and work underscores what we've being saying for a long time – awareness and early detection saves lives," said Jessica Graham, Belk's vice president of communications and community relations, in the press release. "We're excited to see it go and take Belk's fight against breast cancer on the road."
