In a move it believes will simplify the process for all parties concerned, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the Medicare revalidation deadline for providers and suppliers to 2015.
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) all providers and suppliers enrolled in Medicare must revalidate their enrollment information using new enrollment screening criteria. The mandate applies to those who enrolled prior to March 25, 2011.
The extension does not affect those providers and suppliers that have already been issued revalidation notices; these entities, according to CMS, should continue the revalidation process. In line with the extension, revalidation notices will be sent through March 2015.
In a story posted on its Web site today, the American Medical Association (AMA) reports that CMS granted the extension in response to pressure from physician organizations. The story also noted that the association had requested a delay in September and had asked CMS to review the ACA requirement.
