According to its second annual global healthcare data management survey, BridgeHead Software reports that “healthcare leaders around the world” say that PACS accounts for the biggest share of their data.
In 2011, 63 percent of survey respondents said that PACS was the biggest driver in data volumes; that nearly matches the 65 percent that gave the same answer in 2010. Another 30% said they did not know how much data volumes had changed, and 5% said volumes were static or down.
After PACS applications came EHR files (54 percent of respondents) and images captured of documents (51 percent).
The study also indicated that nearly half (45 percent) said their facilities would be adding 1 TB or more in the coming year, and nearly one-third (32 percent) said their employers would adopt a new PACS solution by 2017.
