Hospital acquisitions of imaging centers will slow down in 2013, after years of fast-paced merger/acquisition activiy, according to VMG Health valuation experts Elliott Jeter, CFA, CPA/ABV, and Todd Sorensen, AVA, in an interview with ImagingBiz. According to Jeter and Sorensen, increased competition will reduce volumes to hospitals, which rely on high reimbursement rates for profits, and shift market share to imaging centers with better pricing. Jeter and Sorensen conclude that the imaging-center acquisition market will continue to be active in 2013, but that activity will shift from straight merger/acquisition to more collaborative approaches, such as joint ventures.
