Time is running out for practices that have not implemented a meaningful use solution. In an ImagingBiz interview, Keith Dreyer, DO, PhD, vice chair of radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, warned that practices considering meaningful use must act by October of this year or they will face significant challenges in the future.
2013 will be the last year when practices can effectively capitalize on incentives. Practices beginning attestation in 2013 are eligible for up to $15,000 in incentives per eligible professional. For practices beginning attestation in 2014 or later, however, these incentives won't be available because of a clarification in the rules for stage 2 of the program. No stage in the program can be skipped or shortened explained Dreyer, which could put practices that start late at a disadvantage.
“We are all headed in the same direction here, and those who choose not to participate are going to find themselves not only noncompliant, but left behind,” said Dreyer.
