Zecotek Photonics said this week it filed a lawsuit against Saint-Gobain and Phillips Healthcare for patent infringement.

The lawsuit in the Central District Court of California alleges the Saint-Gobain’s LYSO crystals and the Phillips PET scanners that use them infringe on Zecotek’s patent.

“We believe that this patent is fundamental, and that damages are very substantial,” said Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, Chairman, Zecotek president and CEO, based on a press release.

A spokesman for Phillips Healthcare denied the charges. “Philips is confident that it will prevail in establishing that the Saint-Gobain LYSO crystals are not used in this Zecotek patent and will continue to serve its current and future customers who use the Saint-Gobain’s LYSO crystals in their Philips PET scanners,” the company said in a prepared statement.
