Merge, the multispecialty software supplier based in Chicago, is partnering with Nashville-based Emdeon, which specializes in payment management systems, to offer the latter’s radiology customers a way to send electronic referrals and receive radiology reports from users of Merge’s iConnect Network.
Merge’s iConnect allows hospitals and imaging centers to exchange test orders and results with community providers connected to Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) or electronic health records (EHR) networks, according to Merge.
In exchange, Merge iConnect clients will gain transmit-and-receive access to Emdeon's provider base subscribed to its Clinical Exchange service.
According to a news release, customers of both companies will enjoy streamlined management of imaging orders and results, thanks to workflow being automated through providers’ EHRs.
“Referring physicians will also have the capability to follow their patients' care post-referral,” according to the announcement. “This tracking is necessary for those organizations participating in shared-savings programs, where the variability in care must be more tightly managed.”
